Common failure modes and prevention of riveting

1) Riveting looseness: the riveting is disengaged under the use of tensile force, shear force or other cyclic loads.

Cause: the flanging is not fully opened, the flanging pressing area is too narrow, and the flanging is broken.

Prevention: a. the height of budding shall be in place to avoid budding into continuous flower opening and splitting shape or vertical cone shape.

  1. Increase the uniform pressure, and increase the preloading during riveting to avoid staggered assembly before riveting.

2) Excessive riveting:

The sprouting is higher than the allowable height after flanging.

Reason: the flanging is not fully opened, and the wall thickness of budding is too large.

Prevention: reduce the wall thickness, increase the riveting force, increase the taper of riveting punch, etc.

3) workpiece deformation in riveting area: convex, concave and twisted around, etc.

Cause: the riveting is too dead and the formwork is deformed.

Prevention: the mold or machine shall be limited, and the mold shall be maintained regularly.
